He Left in Search of Rock. He Found . . . His Destiny.

Geoff was born on Prince Edward Island and, for many years, he dared not venture outside the insular confines of his beloved province. His parents told him of the horrors that happened out in the world: rape, murder, unspeakable acts with goats, he knew of it all. His father went so far as to warn Geoff and his friends of personal retribution. "Dead bodies in my trunk" he would intone at every meeting, a menacing grin plastered upon his face.

Genius grows from adversity, it is said. And so it was with Geoff. Despite his parent's dark forboding and thinly veiled threats, Geoff ventured out from Prince Edward Island. He told others he left for Quebec to fight plans for the Free Trade Area of the Americas. This was not the truth. He left in search of . . . rock.

He had heard only bad muzak and cookie cutter music for so long. His small island had few radio stations. Listening to them, and professing an enjoyment in the music that was played was cumpulsory. Those under 20 who wished to differentiate themselves were graciously offered the oppourtunity to listen to shitty punk music. In exchange, they had to idolize and worship it. Defectors were shunned, those that gained in popularity were labelled "sell-outs."Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Geoff knew there had to be a better way. There had to be real music. Good music. And so he left for Quebec, not knowing that he would never return. In the streets with the people, that is where the music lives. Or so he had envisioned. Instead, his escape from the island brought only vapid chants ("dans la rue, avec nous, dans la rue, avec nous") . Worse, he found tear gas. As he and his friend, Casey, came out from a store, tear gas was fired not far off in front of them. His mission was discovered. Panicking, they fled. Tear gas was shot in the other direction. Nowhere was safe. Unable to breath, Geoff remembered the words a mentor had spoken: "when afflicted with tear gas, douse yourself with water." They hadn't seemed inspiring at the time, but now he knew what had to be done.

This was the moment. The moment that everything changed for Geoff. He reached for his water and poured it on his head, in his face, in his eyes. As he fell over in pain, he remembered he had no water, only Coke. The combination of tear gas and Coke burned away his face. Hideously deformed, faith lost in music, Geoff knew he could never return to the island. He would never even muster the strength to leave the spot where he lay. And he didn't.

Geoff was left there for dead, but Manic got up from the spot where Geoff lay. And he swore to himself that from that day on, "Manic would wreak havoc upon the world, destroy all music, and refer to himself in the third person!" And so the legend was born.

You may think he's Geoff, you may think he likes music. Do not be deceived. He will destroy music. And from its ashes, he will create again.
